John is a Senior Research Scientist at GLEC and the Program Manager for GLEC's Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) contract. He coordinates GLEC’s organic chemistry laboratory and supports database and information system requirements of EPA’s UCMR contract and GLEC general operations. He has been a GLEC employee-owner since 1998. John’s work in environmental chemistry has emphasized pollutant degradation reactions; pollutant dissolved organic matter interactions and chemical analysis techniques. He is experienced at developing and implementing analytical chemistry procedures for monitoring pesticide and petroleum hydrocarbon decomposition as a result of either photochemical reactions or microbial degradation, and is proficient in analytical instrumentation; HPLC, GPC, GC-ECD, GC-MS, 1H-NMR, FTIR, absorption spectroscopy and synchronous scan fluorescence spectroscopy. John holds a M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Maine.
