Liana began working in 2020 as a Botanist for GLEC’s contract work with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) to conduct State Wetland Condition Assessments, develop wetland databases and report on the condition of Michigan wetlands. In her work as owner of Borealis Botanical Consulting, Liana conducted comprehensive botanical inventories of vascular plants in wetlands and uplands across northern Michigan, managed threatened and endangered plant populations for state and federal projects, and worked on public-private efforts to conserve rare and declining species and natural communities. She has a comprehensive knowledge of the plants of Northeastern North America and is expert in field data collection, experimental design for field ecology, analysis and modeling of ecological data, statistics, remote sensing, and GIS applications. Liana earned a B.S. in Environmental Science and a M.S. in Conservation Ecology, Informatics, and GIS from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment.
